NOVI, MI – February 26, 2009 – The second annual Cottage & Lakefront Living Show at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi February 26 – March 1 is an ideal opportunity for potential cottage, lakefront and vacation home buyers, builders or renters to make purchases and plans for the spring and summer season.
Green building, remodeling and home design for cottages will be the focus of the presentation by architect Michael Klement of Architectural Resource, LLC in Ann Arbor. He will address how energy and water usage, sustainable building techniques and indoor air quality can create a green cottage that performs significantly better than conventional homes. Klement will illustrate green building principles and concepts for showgoers to use on their existing cottage, new construction, addition or remodeling project.
Riemco Building Company of Chelsea is a Green Built and Aging in Place certified design build company specializing in cottages. They can rebuild teardowns and remodel or add-on to existing homes.
Riverbend Timber Framing of Blissfield has been designing, crafting and building homes that combine the traditional beauty, strength and durability of a solid wood timber frame with the security and comfort of high-tech structural insulating panels for walls, roofs, and foundations. They will have on display their structural insulated panel and timber frame packages for residential and commercial use.
Holland Log and Cedar Homes of Holland builds and supplies log homes throughout the United States and abroad with a complete turnkey package. The company has 64 stock log home plans for design and build or design and supply and offer full log or insulated log homes which are considered to be more energy efficient. Their exhibit will feature a new larger log profile for insulated log homes.
Mountaineer Log and Siding Company of Mayville will feature its Weather Lok System for windows and doors in several profiles that they offer of full log homes and siding. Golden Eagle Log Homes of Mason will provide information on their complete packages of materials to build log cabins and log homes. They will display three new corner systems in their exhibit.
Akzo Nobel Paints of Pontiac will have information on a variety of translucent and solid architectural coatings for log homes, cedar siding and wood decks, which keep the wood from graying and damage along with providing UV protection.
Amish-built cabin furniture and custom all wood kitchen cabinets by Cabinets by Graber of Grabill, IN will be featured along with their new line of Cow Tailing, Chicken Scratches and Hand Planer distressed applications to offer a rustic, old world or vintage feel.
Bio-engineering and bio-technical methods for stabilizing lake shorelines will be displayed by Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Michigan State Extension and Department of Natural Resources to encourage property owners and contractors to use the new soft and natural shoreline green technology. Facts on the non-structural natural approaches to shoreline stabilization, general information for cottages and lakefront properties and other available programs will be available.
Aqua-Weed Control, Inc. of Holly specializes in lake and pond management from small backyard ponds to large lakes. Homeowners can consult with them to identify the plant species around docks and beaches, to take care of weeds and algae, to provide healthy environments for fish and plants and to install decorative fountains to circulate water. They handle all the necessary State of Michigan permits.
Scott Aerator Company of Holland will exhibit their muck and silt moving equipment, pond fountains and aerators.
Cedar bead and cove strips will be placed over a wooden form as the building begins of a handcrafted lightweight, high performance wood-covered fiberglass custom boat by DreamCatcher BoatWorks of Grand Rapids, MI. The 11-foot “Little Auk Kayak” will weigh approximately 25 pounds when completed. Other crafts will be available for sale including the Michigan North Woods Wee Lassie, West River Ribbon Stripped Mahogany deck kayak and 16-foot Canayak with bloodwood, mahogany, basswood and walnut deck.
Custom, modular floating docks with integrated hardware for easy ramp and anchor connections will be exhibited at the Michigan Shoreline Construction of South Lyon display. Standard dock sizes or custom designs are available in traditional wood finishes that are combined with environmentally friendly technology.
Docks, boat lifts, sea wall materials, vinyl sheet piling and weed rollers for lake bottoms will be on display at the American Marine Shore Control, Inc. of White Lake exhibit.
Recycled plastic decking and outdoor furniture will be at Lars/David, Inc of Davisburg exhibit. Their maintenance free material is used for fences, decks, docks, gazebos and pergolas.
Dock Skins of Clawson will exhibit a new low cost alternative to dock replacement. It is a high performance vinyl surface that lies directly over wood or aluminum docks that are too hot, old or splintery. The dock surface is durable, safe, non-slip and has a soft feel to bare feet.
Bob Lo Island Marina Resort Community of Amherstburg will have sales and rental information on their high-rise condominiums units, waterfront homes and townhomes. They will distribute their summer event calendar and provide the details on their 100 slip marina, restaurant and other attributes of the area. The Beach House at Lake Street of Holland will offer information on its fractional purchase program along with the sale and rental of their cottage style townhomes located across from Lake Macatawa and nearby Holland State Park. Re/Max Sunrise will have information for Huron County buyers and sellers looking for lakefront, lake access, cottages, condominiums and single family homes. Buyers and sellers for north central and northwestern Lower Peninsula will find property listings at the Homewaters, LLC of Traverse City display. They specialize in riverfront and lakefront properties ranging from $14,000 river parcels to million dollar waterfront estates in northern Michigan.
Adding outdoor living space increases the usable space in your home. Michigan BLUE Magazine is sponsoring a display with various options for do-it-yourselfers or contractor built created by landscape design and build company 3D Design Group of Brighton. The backyard oasis display features flagstone looking pavers, pergola, outdoor fireplace and waterfall.
Michigan made products from maple syrup to cherry wooden bowls will be available for purchase at the Simply Michigan of Goodrich exhibit.
Every aspect of cottage and lakefront living for cottage and lakefront property owners and those considering buying, building or renting will be on display. Other show exhibits include log, timber frame and cedar homes, cottage rentals, designers, cottage furnishings, lakefront homebuilders and realtors, lakeshore maintenance, boats and docks, outdoor recreational equipment, non-profit environmental organizations, government agencies and financing. Tips, advice and knowledge on purchasing, planning, maintenance, financing and landscaping your cottage will be available from experts throughout the show.
