Pro Wakeboarders Rusty Malinoski, Raphael Derome, Parks Bonifay and Josh Palma will be hanging out at the Action Water Sports booth at the Show on Friday and Saturday!
Rusty is a pro wakeboarder originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, but now resides in Orlando, FL. He is dubbed as one of the most powerful wake riders to ever compete in wakeboard competitions.
Raph won the Best Rail Rider award and the Best Web Video award at Wake Awards for his video with Jonathan Ferguson, “Beyond Perception.”
Parks Bonifay was put in a pair of skis by his father at six months old, forming his first steps into a legendary career. He won the X Games when he was 14 years old, and since then has gone on to dominate wakeboarding events from the Pro Tour to the Gravity Games, as well as completing feats such as becmoning the first documented wakeboarder to land a 1080.
Josh Palma had a bit of a late introduction to the sport, as he went to college in central Florida (Rollins) to play baseball. After having some work done on his shoulder he decided his baseball days were over and consequently started to wakeboard for Rollins. He competed in collegiate events and local contests for the next couple of years and slowly worked his way into the scene in 2004 after winning the Buywake.com Global Rider Search.

Boating Safety Certification Course
Saturday, February 20 from 12pm – 5pm
Get your certification done in one day by the Kent County Sheriff Department’s Marine Division on Saturday at the Boat Show and be ready to hit the water this Summer! Typically these classes take multiple evenings. Here is your opportunity to get certified, a legal necessity in order to command a motorized boat without supervision for anyone born after 1978, and those between the ages of 12 and 16 years old. (And simply a smart thing to do!)
There is no fee to attend the Boating Safety Class. Participants should gather in the main entrance lobby of DeVos Place and will be directed to the seminar room just before 12pm.
Michigan Hydroplane Racing Association
MHRA is a grass-roots Stock Outboard Racing Club, which hosts over a half dozen racing events across the State of Michigan. This is the same club which at one time hosted racing on the Grand River in Grand Rapids and features highly competitive, affordable, racing action with a wide variety of ages and speeds. The Junior Hydroplanes, where kids can start racing at age 9, have a top speed of roughly 42 MPH, where adults can reach up to 80+ MPH dependent on their class – and it’s all on your knees! This family-oriented sport features some of the best racing action on the water – and the hub is in the State of Michigan, with MHRA being one of the largest outboard racing clubs in the Nation!
The association offers very unique types of boats – Stock and Junior Outboard Hydroplanes. They will have two boats that will be on display at the Show. The first is a Junior Hydroplane of the J Classes, which kids as young as 9 years old can start racing. This boat has a 15 HP Mercury engine on the back, to which speeds of around 42 MPH can be reached. The second boat is a C Stock Hydroplane, of the adult Stock Outboard Class, which can reach speeds in the upper 60 MPH range, powered by a Yamato Race Engine.
Grand City Show Skiers
A nationally known ski team, Grand City Show Skiers, will be performing a live demonstration of many aspects of show skiing, including human pyramids. Skiing is extremely popular in the upper Midwest, and practiced throughout the nation. Show skiing combines components of all water ski disciplines. Water ski shows are an aquatic Broadway musical, featuring several water ski acts choreographed to music and built around a theme that tells a story.
Grand City Show Skiers is an amateur club, which usually has 30 or more members. Age is not a factor since ski club performers can range from children to grandparents. Grand City is a family oriented, non-profit club that has been entertaining the West Michigan communities for over 25 years.
Saturday: 1pm / 5pm
