WELCOME to the new Taste of the Town blog for the Grand Rapids International, Wine, Beer & Food Festival. We wanted to create an outlet to share with you more information about the world of food and beverages not only during the months leading up to the Festival but also throughout the year.

We’ll dig into topics such as seasonal meals, wine pairings, the history of cocktails, ethnic cuisine, cooking with beer, brewing the perfect coffee and so much more. And, we’ve enlisted the help of some our favorite culinarians, brewers, sommeliers, baristas, bloggers and other industry leaders to share their insights with you to whet your appetite for our 10th Annual Festival (November 16-18) at DeVos Place in Downtown Grand Rapids.

Coming up on our editorial calendar this year: a look at the “sport” of bartending by Zac Williams from at the JW Marriott, a highlight on the culinary and craft beverage tourism scene in Traverse City, insights into the world of women and whiskey from Kellie Rolland at Mazzo Cucina D’Italia, a look inside the healing properties of hops from Cait McClelland at the JW Marriott Spa, fall beer pairings from craft brewing expert Ben Darcie, a how-to guide to making spiced wine from Black Star Farms and a review of food and wine movies from Celebration Cinema.

Emily Bennett, who has been on a quest to visit ALL breweries in Michigan in 2017 will share her recommendations on how to navigate the Beer City Station at the Festival. Stephen Smith from Henry A. Fox Sales will introduce you to the world of sour beers. The Beervangelist Fred Bueltmann will shed light on his latest endeavor, This Craft Nation. Rob Hanks at Reserve GR will take an anthropological look at the craft cocktail revival. The team at Ferris Coffee will give us their thoughts on selecting the perfect blend.

Throughout the year, we’ll continue to focus on various aspects of the culinary world as well as areas dedicated to wine, beer, cider, mead, spirits, coffee, tea and other beverages. As always, we welcome your input with commentary on our social media channels.
