Why Exhibitors Love the West Michigan Golf Show

(Grand Rapids, Mich.) Now in its 32nd year, the West Michigan Golf Show wouldn’t be such a success without the support of its many exhibitors. At its core, the Show is aimed at attracting golf enthusiasts— in the dead of winter—with thoughts of tee times dancing in their heads. Greeting them at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids on Feb. 14-16 will be aisles of exhibitors and industry leaders eager to show thousands of patrons what’s in store for them in 2020.

What makes the West Michigan Golf Show so essential to exhibitors? Let’s ask a selected list of long time and loyal exhibitors, some of whom have participated in every show since 1989!

Kevin Helm, Executive Director, Michigan Section of the PGA:
The West Michigan Golf Show seems to be the unofficial kick-off the golf season each year. Although it is often snowy outside, it’s great to see so much energy and excitement for the upcoming golf season by all of the exhibitors and attendees inside the DeVos Center.

We appreciate how well run the show is every year and our PGA Professionals look forward to greeting the attendees and offering some swing tips in the free lesson and family fun zones.

Peter Fitzsimons, Executive Director, Petoskey Area Travel Bureau
We know the Grand Rapids area golfers not only love the 17 championship golf courses that we have within 20 miles of downtown Petoskey, but also all of the other nearby attractions for golfers and non-golfers alike. The West Michigan Golf Show is the perfect setting to remind them that winter will be over soon and it’s time to plan (and save) on a 2020 trip to the Petoskey Area!

Susan Smiley, Communications & Membership Director, Golf Association of Michigan
The GAM has been a sponsor of the West Michigan Golf Show for many years because we support golf in Michigan and because it is a great opportunity to celebrate the great game of golf. Somehow spring seems just a little closer when you attend the WMGS.

The West Michigan Golf Show always has great speakers and the folks at ShowSpan work to provide a wide array of events that appeals to all golfers. The putting contest is always fun and it is great that they have a ladies night and a junior day. It’s the perfect event to cure the winter golf blues.

Bob Kitchen, Owner/Sales Manager, Maple Hill Golf
First off: the timing for golf as an industry is perfect.  All of the new products for 2020 are slated for right around the Feb 1. So this is one of the best times to show new products for 2020 as well as clearance of 2019 products.  It also gives the attendee the PERFECT opportunity to talk to many of Michigan’s premier golf resorts and to compare pricing as well as line up dates and times. Truth is: we’re spoiled in Michigan.  We aren’t a typical state.  We have lots of GREAT options.

As part of the family that owns Maple Hill, we do a lot of golf shows across the Midwest.  The West Michigan Golf show is unique due its tight-knit community and everyone is really truly trying to help each other out.  What makes W. Michigan a great place to live is also what makes the West Michigan Golf Show special—great people and a great sense of community.

Kevin McKinley, Director of Golf, Treetops Resort
Typically this is our kick off show and although we are locked and loaded and focused on selling golf all year, it’s really at this show the realization that golf season is just around the corner sets in.

This is a show that gets people active.  We are so thrilled every year to play a part in the hole-in challenge hole built inside DeVos.  Golfers seek out this show because they know it’s not just another show where they’ll walk around and dream about golf, they actually get to hit some shots.

Finally, the ShowSpan (producer) staff is hands down the most attentive and hard working staffs of any show that we encounter.  They anticipate and meet our needs often before we know we have them.

Much like a golf course feels that it’s in the entertainment business, the golf show staff and promoters work hard to make this an entertainment spectacle with the care that is placed each year in selecting headliners and other on stage presenters as well as making it interactive.

Tyler Smies, Executive Director, The First Tee of West Michigan
I really see the West Michigan Golf Show as the start to the golf season.  Golfers are restless and are looking for spring.  We get to meet them and their enthusiasm for warm weather and golf.  As an organization, we want to get their kids excited about golf, too. And we’ve seen so many youngsters be introduced to golf through this show.  We’re happy to meet parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles as they introduce a young person to the game, and give them a tangible next step in their development as people and as golfers.

We know more than most that all success is built through relationships and the West Michigan Golf Show is uniquely equipped to build those relationships with clients and customers.

Jeff O’Malley, PGA Director of Golf, Pilgrim’s Run Golf Club
For us, it’s important to have exposure to golfers that are new to the area or to those who have not played golf with us and talk with them about what Pilgrim’s Run has to offer. We also want to reconnect with our regular customers in a personal way, in a one on one conversation.

As always, there is an ideal opportunity at this time to promote and to sign golfers up for Regular & Senior Spring Scrambles, Summer Golf Packages, Golf Instruction, Junior Camps & Women’s Clinics, plus our Yearly and Monthly Practice Range Packages.
